Eclipse Surgical gets approval for PTMR

SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 3 (Reuter) - Eclipse Surgical Technologies Inc said Tuesday that it has received the first Investigational Device Exemption approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to begin clinical studies of a new catheter-based approach to transmyocardial revascularization (TMR), called percutaneous transmyocardial revascularization (PTMR).

TMR is an investigational laser procedure designed to create pathways for oxygenated blood to feed the ischemic (oxygen-starved) heart muscle.

With the new catheter-based approach, the PTMR procedure is performed under local anesthesia by a cardiologist in a cardiac catheterization laboratory, much like balloon angioplasty.

Eclipse PTMR clinical studies will be conducted using a patented coronary catheter steering system with an articulating distal catheter tip, it said.

Is there anybody following this stock? This technology is increadible but it seems like nobody has any interest in it. PLC should be get FDA approval this summer. If all goes well and ESTI follows the same FDA approval path of PLC, we should see approval this time next year?

Any feedback would be appreciated...

TTFN,

John
