Richard-I'm no expert on this stuff, but basically gallium arsenide chips provide extremely high-speed switching at low power. Areas where this is vital are communications and telecommunications. If I'm not mistaken, the receivers for DirectTV use gallium arsenide chips. You can find some good information on Vitesse's technology at: synopsys.com For a wealth of information, go to Digital's AltaVista search engine at: altavista.digital.com and run a search on "Vitesse Semiconductor" (you need to use the quotes in the search string to limit the search to documents containing the phrase Vitesse Semiconductor). Gerry p.s. "Vitesse" means "speed" in French as in TGV, Train a Grande Vitesse, is the French term for bullet train...just in case you wanted to know something totally useless and irrelevant to the discussion.
