Telstra, PCCW's IP Backbone Joint Venture to Launch on Feb. 7 Jan 31, 2001 - 13:51:26 HKT Quamnet News Service Australia-based telecoms Telstra and Pacific Century CyberWorks Ltd. (0008), Richard Li's Internet and telecoms company, will formally launch their 50/50 Internet Protocol backbone joint venture on Feb. 7, said Chris Maloy, Telstra's general manager for Asia Pacific. Telstra and PCCW agreed last August to form the IP joint venture, bringing together assets including submarine cable investments, satellite, gateway, and network infrastructure points of presence, and solid Internet Protocol/bandwidth and traffic volumes. The new company has yet to be named. At midday, PCCW shares were up 0.6 percent at HK$4.50. quamnet.com
