"when someone ultimately pays for a home with their own money, interest included, it is not a gift received at all"

Do you suppose the operative word here is ULTIMATELY??!!...as the AP indicated, at the time the house was paid for by a third party, there was no documentation or talk of a loan, simply rent with an option to purchase...if you were buying a home and someone handed you a check for the purchase, with no strings attached, would you consider that a gift?...the IRS sure as heck does.
