Company Press Release

PeopleSoft gains customers worldwide

Growth in Europe, Asia/Pacific, and Latin America

PLEASANTON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 4, 1997--PeopleSoft Inc., a leading provider of enterprise application software, today announced that during the first quarter of 1997, over 50 organizations outside the United States and Canada signed license agreements for Peoplesoft Financials or PeopleSoft HRMS, or a combination of both application suites.

This brings to nearly 400 the number of customers PeopleSoft has outside the United States. In addition, the company has many multinational customers based in North America with subsidiaries implementing or using PeopleSoft applications in Europe and Asia.

PeopleSoft has made a substantial investment in extending the breadth and geographic scope of its support and service structure beyond the United States and Canada, its traditional strongholds. PeopleSoft now has subsidiary offices in Japan, Australasia, Canada, Latin America, Europe, and South Africa, as well as relationships with several distributors located around the world.

``Our worldwide infrastructure has paid off in the level of support that we provide to our customers in Europe, Latin America, and the Asia/Pacific region,'' said Al Duffield, senior vice president of worldwide operations, PeopleSoft. ``We are very pleased to see organizations are responding by licensing our software applications, which are designed for organizations with global functional requirements.''

New Customers in Diverse Industries Throughout Europe

PeopleSoft added new customers across the European continent in the first quarter of 1997, including Ahold, Deutsche Bank AG, Eurocontrol, and a Netherlands-based subsidiary of KPMG Peat Marwick.

``PeopleSoft HRMS won us over by virtue of its rich functionality, its great flexibility and adaptability, and its range of user-oriented tools,'' said Francois Peplowski, Project Leader for Origny, a French subsidiary of Holderbank, a major cement manufacturer based in Belgium.

PeopleSoft France completed or extended existing licensing agreements with such companies as Scor Gie Informatique and La Voix du Nord. In Spain, Dragados y Construcciones, one of the country's largest heavy construction companies, and the Universidad de Zaragoza signed or extended license agreements.

In the United Kingdom, new PeopleSoft customers include BUPA (British United Provident Association) International, a major private healthcare organization, and ITT London & Edinburgh, a major insurance company, as well as John Lewis plc, Axa Equity & Law, Ericsson Holdings Ltd., the National Environment Research Council, Kvaerner John Brown Systems Ltd, and Booker Belmont.

Asia/Pacific: Success in Financial Services

New PeopleSoft customers in Asia include Bangkok Life Assurance, MBF Finance BHD in Singapore, and Telekom Malaysia. In both Asia and Australia, PeopleSoft has been particularly successful recently in attracting new customers and completing rapid implementations within the financial services sector.

For example, the financial services group Suncorp, based in Queensland, Australia, went live with PeopleSoft HRMS and Payroll in September 1996, seven months after installation began. Suncorp has already seen dramatic reductions in some of its human resources processing workload, according to Suncorp's human resources manager Chris Elliott.

``Our old HR system took about eight hours to process a whole payroll. With the PeopleSoft system installed on our DB2/MVS platform, we've reduced CPU processing time to a matter of minutes,'' said Elliott. ``PeopleSoft was the only vendor with a working Australian payroll module, and that was critical for us. But we also noted how the testimonials poured forth from other customers about PeopleSoft's comprehensive and responsive support network.''

AAP Information Services, which has licensed PeopleSoft Financials, is Australia's third largest long distance telecommunications company, a PC network specialist, and a key provider of financial markets information systems. ``Our deciding factors were the software's ability to work with our proprietary systems and the vendor's ability to work with us. We needed a company that is sensitive to our needs. PeopleSoft's product appeared to be the most flexible and the AAP team
felt it could work best alongside them,'' said Dick Kelly, senior consultant at AAP Information Services.

Latin America: Strength in Communications

PeopleSoft has invested significantly in its products, management, and service and support infrastructure for Latin America during the last year. In addition to
translating key products into Spanish and Portugese, PeopleSoft has incorporated in Argentina and Brazil, and added new country and region managers for Brazil, Mexico, Central America, and the Andean region.

In Latin America, the PeopleSoft sales force has tripled in size, a Professional Services Group has been launched, and surveys show that 100 percent of its customers would both choose PeopleSoft again and recommend the company's products. PeopleSoft closed several key license agreements in Latin American during the first quarter of 1997.

Argentina's Compania de Radiocommunicaciones and Venezuela's Telecomunicaciones Movilnet became PeopleSoft HRMS customers, while Miditel SA de CV, a prominent telecommunications company in Mexico, licensed both PeopleSoft Financials and HRMS. They join the ranks of other major telecommunications firms in Latin America, such as Telecom Argentina S.A., that are already PeopleSoft customers.
