Although these tests aren't totally comprehensive, they have re-assured me that this shortcut does not circumvent Windows' safeguards in any serious manner.

So what is the verdict then? If this shortcut works for me should I keep using it? Which is the worse of the two evils - shutting down improperly (with error messages) or using the shortcut which eliminates the safeguards?
