If there was a check for 2.5 million, I must have missed it. If there was, I can't imagine why there would have been any rent or options spoken of from the start, can you? If Reagan received a check to pay for the house, it would have been in the Reagan name from the start. If he ultimately didn't pay but received title, it would be a gift. If he ultimately paid to receive title, it was not a gift. He paid, hence no gift. Very simple and standard stuff.
