It is possible that some of the modest lily ponds are poorly understood and presented. I’m most concerned about Broadband Optical Switches and Network Processors in this regard.

I agree. Intel's revenues in CY 2000 were almost $34 Billion. According to some of the market research by 2004 Network Processors will have total revenues of $1 Billion (WIND FY2005). Even if Intel had 100% market share of this $1 Billion market, I don't think this would represent a satisfactory growth opportunity or a satisfactory return on investment (ROI) for Intel. I can only conclude that the NP lily pond is larger than we currently estimate.

I notice from the Intel web site that IOP's are now part of the IXA architecture. Perhaps some of the Server Appliance royalties actually belong in the NP pond.
