15:38 ET CIENA Corp (CIEN) 91 -7: Stock taking a hit in recent minutes; hearing from trading floor sources that a brokerage firm squawked that Alcatel (ALA) beat Ciena for a contract with Level 3 (LVLT). Market obviously fears that this talk refers to the optical switch contract that Ciena has been hoping to win from LVLT, but ALA does not have a competitive product. More likely, the contract win for ALA is for a less important product such as DWDM transport gear.
