A Long Term Threat?? Waveguides are an old technology with heretofore limited applications. But here's a report indicating a company using waveguides may be able to take aim at FO communications applications. However, since they are working of commercializing a product that competes with single-mode optical fiber, I would hazard a guess that DWDM-type applications would be some time down the road. However, could we all be focusing on dramatic growth for FO, only to be thrown off course by a technology few are even aware of? photonics.com As Andy Grove said, only the paranoid survive.
