I can get on RB. My other identity does not work though. It was sold yesterday an unspecified amount of cash (which probably means that AltaVista is embarrassed by how little it got) You know, I was at the bargaining table with Terra Lycos and I showed them my bid, and they laughed. They thought I was unbelievably cheap and shouldn't have been invited. I explained that we were the top two bidders and I was going to raise my original $5 bid to an unspecified amount. This seemed to scared them, and cause their two lawyers and VP to call a hasty huddle. I met with David W. and he said my new offer of $500 was better than Lycos's original offer, but he wanted $16 million. I said INSP offered Silicon Investor to me for $1M and RB was not worth that much to me since it didn't have the features that SI had. He pouted and strutted around the room whining about how much he paid for RB. I said I would tell Lycos that I was going to offer 10M to take it off CMGI's hands if that would make him feel better. He agreed and promised me a finder's fee. I agreed and told the Lycos boys that I'm going to the low eight figures and was going to change RB to a subscription model. They huddled again and went to talk to David. An hour later, the attorney for Lycos came out grinning like a Cheshire Cat. I asked did they beat my offer. They said they beat it and got David W. to sign off on the contract immediately. I shook his hand and said Congrats and said I'll see in other deals in the future. What the final price was not disclosed, but I heard 16M. Of course David is not returning my calls. Just have bill CMGI again.
