When I made my comment about the need for superior timing, your post that I was replying to said nothing about options:

When people trade stocks without using options, they need the trend to be up while they are holding the stock. That is the timing I was referring to. For example, if you had bought any semiconductor equipment stock around the time of the 1997 high, it would have taken you a year or two to get even.

If you have a way of trading options that allows you to make money regardless of whether the stock is going up or down, I'll have to take your word for it. In that case the timing of the trends that I was referring to would not apply.
