The Wall Street Journal reports in its on-line edition that Macromedia is one of the
few profitable Internet companies that has excellent prospects for remaining in the
black. Lewis Perdue, in a glowing review of the company for WSJ.com, says,
however, its stock was still beaten down this past month. Macromedia weathered
2000's dot-com meltdown in better shape than many, losing only about half its
market cap at a time when a 95-per-cent gutting was the norm. After releasing
fiscal third-quarter financials on Jan. 16 that showed pro forma diluted net income
of 29 U.S. cents a share and the San Francisco company said that it expected
fourth-quarter growth and profits to be "similar" to the third quarter. Macromedia
is acquiring Allaire for $360-million (U.S.) Allaire's development tools make a
perfect fit for Macromedia's multimedia software suites. Further, Macromedia's
Flash and Shockwave consumer products are among the few browser plug-ins
that are both friendly and usable to Web surfers, but which have a near-ubiquitous
presence among Web users.

I like MACR, it saved my financial ass when it made its friendly takeover offer for Allaire.
