Marketing, marketing, marketing. Windows 95 was so good that it is really hard to make it better. Silverberg may have been a very, very good program designer, but Windows 95 really suffers from the fact, that it's hard to improve.

Linux has it much better here - there's still so much to improve, that computer magazines have much more to write about. This makes computer magazines more interested in Linux than Windows.

The most successful business model in the Linux world is probably "write about it and sell magazines"...

Our own business model is good, too: Don't sell hardware. Don't sell software. Sell consulting hours, advice the customer which software to use and buy, and install Linux and thin client where you can. Remote administer everything using SSH (encrypted telnet) and terminal services. This gives very high customer satisfaction, and pays well.

The customer can pay us an hours pay ($120) for 5 minutes work, and we are still way cheaper than our competitors. And our Linux servers never fail except on hardware failures.

Lars.
