Ericsson's ENGINE solution to provide WorldCom with next-generation services (This is a big breakthrough - Ed.)

WorldCom selects Ericsson's ENGINE platform for next-generation network as a foundation for new multimedia services.

ENGINE is an open platform that provides WorldCom with a single multi-service network. This converged network using the new multi-service switch technology will help WorldCom deliver additional key services that will enable its customers for e-business.

"WorldCom is dedicated to deploying 'generation d' services," said Fred Briggs, WorldCom's chief technical officer. "Ericsson's architecture converges voice, data and multimedia into one network, allowing WorldCom to deploy these and other generation d services more rapidly. We are right on target with our multi-service switched strategy and deployment."

WorldCom will start upgrading to the ENGINE Bridgehead Network platform in early 2001, and will continue with the ENGINE Integral Network and ENGINE Multimedia throughout the year.

"WorldCom is a leading communications company and we are happy to support them in their strategic development," said Einar Lindquist, president of
Ericsson Division Multi-Service Networks. "The agreement with WorldCom gives us a platform for continued expansion in the United States, Latin America, Asia Pacific and Europe."

Ericsson is the leading communications supplier, combining innovation in mobility and Internet in creating the new era of mobile Internet. Ericsson provides total solutions covering everything from systems and applications
to mobile phones and other communications tools. With more than 100,000 employees in 140 countries, Ericsson simplifies communications for customers all over the world.

About ENGINE
Ericsson's ENGINE solution will provide end-users with full-service voice, integrated access, and future-enabled portals. ENGINE migrates circuit-switched networks into a single next generation network, based on ATM and
IP packet switching technologies.

The scope of ENGINE includes broadband access solutions, packet backbone network solutions, communication services solutions, applications and hosting solutions, and management solutions. The technologies used in this
architecture - and the structure itself - are fully optimized to achieve the lowest operational costs, and secure the highest possible service level and new revenue opportunities for operators.
