It's a funny thing about my brokerage IRA though - maybe I'm atypical, but I'm in fact less inclinded to make trades in that account than in my taxable account, even though both are for the same goal, to save for retirement. Somehow I think of the IRA as "real" retirement money and I don't want to take too many chances :)

Besides I'd much rather buy and hold since trading isn't really what I do - I'm now convinced you have to really enjoy the process - as you clearly do. I enjoy engineering primarily for its own sake and feel I do better at it ceteris paribus than engineers for whom it's just a job (and those soon migrate to management!) It's nice to see my portfolio grow, but not so much fun if it takes a lot of time away from my thinking about engineering and software to micromanage things.

Speaking of social security numbers and such, I just saw on a french tv news how they routinely scan property ownership databases to correlate with income tax. France has this ISF (Impot de Solidarité sur la Fortune), a progressive tax on top of all else keyed on your total net worth, even if it's simply dead money tied up in your residence(s) which you're paying property taxes on anyhow. What a country! LOL!!
