Reminds me of Ithaca, back when I was attending Cornell. I lived in a house which had so many holes where house heat could easily leak out. Covering the windows with plastic insulation helped a little, but the heating bills were still astronomical (even for someone with a decent income, much less a bunch of poor college students). And of course, the landlord was not motivated at all to improve the insulation in that place.

At least Californian winters are rather mild, unlike upstate NY. Wait until the summer! Aren't Californians very fond of their air conditioners?
