Do you have any comments--particularly on it's SAN vs. NAS section or on how the use of optical networking in storage networks will affect NTAP?

Specifically, they believe NTAP’s positioning in the storage market may be undermined by competitors’ initiatives to unify SAN and NAS architectures. Industry checks indicate that EMC’s (EMC 75.99)recent push into the NAS market with a unique architectural approach and aggressive pricing could hamper NTAP’s ability to sustain top-line growth. Briefing.com's take on storage is that in the not too distant future SAN and NAS will blur into one so that part is not surprising.

We now know that NTAP and BRCD are finally ready to discuss the baby of their marriage of over two years ago. It will be NTAP that will blur the line between SAN and NAS with BRCD's switches on the backend of a filer farm. With BRCD's venture with CSCO producing a FC to TCP/IP bridge, the mind reals with configuration options, especially for content delivery and remote mirroring.

I find EMC's chest pounding to be very indicative of just how important NTAP's position in the market really is. EMC has not delivered a competitive product. The growth in EMC's share of the NAS market will be significant, but I believe it will come from pent up demand in EMC's own customer base. Upcoming NTAP product announcements will raise the bar again, and EMC will not have an answer.
