Newmont Announces Executive Changes
DENVER, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Newmont Mining Corporation (NYSE: NEM)
announced several executive changes following the recent completion of its
merger with Battle Mountain Gold Company.
John A.S. Dow, formerly executive vice president of exploration, was named
executive vice president/group executive for Latin America. Jeff Huspeni,
most recently vice president of business development, replaces Dow as vice
president, exploration. Greg Etter is vice president, external affairs and
W. Mark Hart is vice president of Canadian operations.
Dow will be based in Lima, Peru and has responsibility for Newmont's Latin
American operations and business affairs. Newmont is a 51.35 percent
shareholder and the operator of Minera Yanacocha, Latin America's largest gold
mine, located in northern Peru. As a result of the Battle Mountain merger,
the company also operates the Kori Kollo gold mine in Bolivia. Dow joined
Newmont in 1978 and directed Newmont's exploration activities in Southeast
Asia for twelve years. From 1994 to 1996, while based in Jakarta, he also had
oversight responsibility for Newmont's Indonesian operations, including
government and external affairs. In 1996 he moved to Denver with
responsibility for Newmont's worldwide exploration program.
Huspeni has been with Newmont for 19 years, serving in Denver, the Eastern
United States, Australia and Nevada. Before being named vice president,
Huspeni was director of worldwide mine geology.
Etter, formerly vice president and general counsel for Battle Mountain,
will be responsible for government, public and community relations, as well as
employee communications and security.
Hart joined Newmont in 1999 as vice president of business processes. In
his new position, he is responsible for the Golden Giant and Holloway mines in
Ontario, which were acquired as part of the Battle Mountain transaction.
