. All decisions about what is right and wrong and what should be legal and should not be legal rest on personal senses of truth. When we are lucky there is a broad consensus about this truth.

Fortunately, almost all ideas are the down-to-earth kind--they have pros and cons and costs and benefits. We can explain our positions to each other so we have a basis for group decision making. When we get into truths--things some of us just *know* and other of us just don't *get*--we have no basis for working out any conflicts. I don't see any civilized way to resolve them but letting everyone make their own choices until such time as a reasonable consensus evolves. No matter how strongly we feel. No matter how true our truth seems to us. People of good will don't impose their truths on others.
