SGI Japan Workstations Offer Advanced Graphics Power
Friday, February 2, 2001
TOKYO (Nikkei)--SGI Japan Ltd. announced Thursday the launch of two Unix workstations that offer what the company says is the most advanced graphics capabilities available in a workstation today.

The Silicon Graphics Octane2 V10 and V12 are equipped with new graphics chips that can render 18 million polygons per second, nearly double the performance of competitors' models. The workstations are also equipped with MIPS R12000A 360MHz processors and support 68 billion displayable colors.

The high-end Octane2 V12 starts at 4.39 million yen. SGI plans to market the workstations for applications like automotive design, and is targeting first-year sales of 2,000 units.
