Well, to answer all three of both your questions:

Bland does believe a fertilized egg is essentially a child. As long as it retains the potential to become a human being, yes.

re RU486: Bland is frankly not a scholar of various methods of abortion. Abortion has literally played no role in his personal life whatever. No one in his immediate or extended family has ever had an abortion, to his knowledge, nor have any of the women he has been seriously involved with or married to in the past. Perhaps bland should be embarrassed to admit that, but it is the simple truth. So any opinion he could express would not be a knowledgeable or educated one. If RU486 is less safe for the...is there a term for this?...for the "faux mother", we'll say, than other common methods, bland wouldn't especially endorse it. But bland is speaking from nearly perfect ignorance on the subject. It has never touched him personally enough in any way to be concerned with it.

Bland cannot for the life of him, at the moment, think of a justifiable reason for a mother to kill a newly born child, beyond perhaps saving it from someone else killing it more brutally instead. And bland says this assuming she has had every opportunity currently available to abort the child prior to birth.
