I must conclude that you have some ulterior motives for posting so consistently about your detached philosophies ...

Maybe Tim and I have been taking up more than our fair share of space on this thread the last few days and have become boring. It's so unusual to find someone who can argue the pro-life position so calmly and coherently that I'm loath to let him get away. I don't know if he has ulterior motives or not, but he's been helpful to my understanding of the issue and he's been a good sport. I hope that everyone will indulge us a bit longer.

From what source does your 'conviction' spring, so to speak?

I started this conversation with Tim to get an answer to the same question as you're asking. Over the course of our posts, I've gotten an answer that is comprehensible to me. The answer, as I understand it, is that there isn't a rational basis at all but a deeply held feeling of truth. I find that answer satisfying because it relieves me of the need to pursue further my search for a rationale. I can respect an inner sense about truth as a basis for one's personal convictions and actions. I'm hoping that Tim is coming to understand my objection to using anyone's personal truth as a basis for public policy.
