Asia Global Crossing and KG Telecommunications Enter Into Discussions To Tap Telecommunications Market in Taiwan
TAIPEI, Taiwan, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Asia Global Crossing and KG Telecommunications (KGT) have agreed to explore, in accordance with regulations, possibilities for a strategic alliance to tap the telecommunications market in Taiwan, one of the fastest growing markets in the Asia-Pacific region.
(Photo: newscom.com ) Mr. John Legere, president and chief executive officer of Asia Global Crossing, said, ``This initiative further underlines our commitment to delivering broadband technology to the region, not just shore-to-shore, but city-to-city. We are delighted to be discussing opportunities with KGT, a pioneer in the communications industry in Taiwan.''
KGT utilizes cutting-edge technologies integrating Internet, data and mobile communications to provide high quality personalized telecommunications services to its customers. In September 2000, KGT launched Asia's first nationwide GPRS network, a move that enhanced its leadership position in wireless broadband communications.
Mr. Leslie Koo, chairman of KG Telecommunications, said, ``Taiwan is our home market. We are pleased to explore the possibility to have Asia Global Crossing, a dynamic and visionary company, as a partner in this growing market. When the East Asia Crossing submarine cable system lands in Taiwan in Q2, 2001, we believe that a partnership will allow us to leverage Asia Global Crossing's global connectivity and enable us to deliver international IP and data services to our customers.''
Asia Global Crossing Taiwan, a subsidiary of Asia Global Crossing, is the first telecommunications company to receive approval of its application for an International Submarine Cable Circuit Leasing License from the Ministry of Transportation and Communications in Taiwan. This license allows it to land its East Asia Crossing system in Taiwan.
When the East Asia Crossing submarine cable system is completed, it will be the first pan-Asian network, providing connectivity between Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines and, as regulations permit, China. Customers in Taiwan will have seamless access to more than 200 major cities in 27 countries via the worldwide Global Crossing Network. East Asia Crossing is expected to speed the development of Taiwan into a major telecommunications hub in Asia. |
