Pericom Introduces New Family of SOTiny(TM) Logic Products for Reduced Space Requirements
SOTiny Logic Targets the Exploding Market for Space-Constrained Designs
SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Pericom Semiconductor Corporation (Nasdaq: PSEM), a leading supplier of high-speed and mixed-signal integrated circuits, today announced its newest family of SOTiny(TM) logic parts. Adding to its existing line of SOTiny Switches, the PI74ST1Gxx family consists of nine single-gate logic functions, available in both the SOT23 and SC70 space-saving packages.

In today's smaller electronic designs, engineers have limited board space. SOTiny logic parts will help industries fulfill the demand for powerful, yet increasingly smaller designs. With their tiny footprint, SOTiny parts can be easily placed in compact and densely-populated boards, thus enabling a design to be smaller and lower cost. Typical applications for SOTiny logic parts include PDAs, digital cameras, cell phones, pagers, and a myriad of other space-constrained applications.
SOTiny logic parts can also be used to quickly fix a mistake in an intricate design. Because of their miniature size, the parts can be effortlessly placed to fix logic errors after a design has been finished. This process is more economical than completely re-spinning the design and also results in faster time-to-market. However, because of the skyrocketing growth of today's space-constrained designs, more engineers are including these parts in their initial designs rather than using them as quick fixes, thus giving products more flexibility and versatility.
The market for small-footprint electronic devices is diversifying and growing rapidly. According to Insight Onsite the worldwide market for single-gate logic was approximately $100 million in CY2000.
"As more designs move to smaller models, the demand and the requirements for smaller parts have increased," said Stephen Lam, Product Marketing Engineer at Pericom Semiconductor. Pericom's SOTiny logic family will address the need for tiny footprints, allowing designers to save board space and reduce complex trace routing. Smaller parts used in today's compact designs will not only save money but will also fuel new design ideas for more innovative and versatile products. Our SOTiny Logic builds upon our SOTiny Switch family, as well as future SOTiny Clock and SOTiny LVDS products."
Pericom's SOTiny Logic Parts
The SOTiny logic parts have a broad operating range (VCC = 1.8V to 3.6V) with a high output drive (+/- 24mA at 3V VCC). In addition, the parts are high speed with typical tPD at 1.8ns. The product line includes nine parts: PI74ST1G00 (NAND), PI74ST1G02 (NOR), PI74ST1G04 (Inverter), PI74ST1G08 (AND), PI74ST1G32 (OR), PI74ST1G79 (D-Type Flip-Flop), PI74ST1G86 (XOR), PI74ST1G125 (Buffer), and PI74ST1G126 (Buffer).
Availability and Pricing
The PI74ST1Gxx family of parts is available now from Pericom Semiconductor for engineering sampling and evaluation, with volume production planned for the second quarter of 2001. The devices are packaged in both the SOT23 and SC70 packages, with tape and reel packaging priced at $0.15 per unit in quantities of 5,000.
