Harry Dent in his 2000s Investor book presents the thesis that alternating 40 year generations are innovative and consolidating (i.e. make the innovations work in the larger society). He further maintains that the innovative boomer generation is receiving extra impetus from a 500 year population boom cycle. This would imply that the changes are there, just not widespread yet. Personally, I'm fond of the "computer" shots from the sci-fi movies of the era of which you spoke. You might consider what the implications of the genetic research of the past 50 years will be. BTW I'm trying to get my daughters to watch "Treasure of the Sierra Madre".
