The term "photonic router" implies photons are being routed...which if true would be a monumental breakthrough and would be making much more news than this. I'm assuming it is some sort of o-e-o switch... Somebody is already using bubbles to switch light beams (deflecting light between multiple outputs by using bubbles generated by piezoelectric or micromechanical devices similar to ink-jet printheads). (I think the response time is on the order of a millisecond or so, so it's good for short-term circuit switching, not per-packet routing.) Another possibility is micro-mechanical mirrors, although I don't really know what their response time would be. Daniel
