Joe,
You know something could be done, in the meantime it is not being done, but you are ready to reduce supply, while the reduction in the demand in in the "could" category.
Scumbria could well be all evangelical about the environment but that's not what's important here. The fact is there were/are steps that had they been taken would have/could have averted the crisis in CA. However, many of the people in CA have the same attitude about the environment, about energy and about conservation attitudes that you and others have expressed on this thread. You all expect/assume that an alternative solution will be forthcoming well before we run out of oil and other fossil fuels. But wonder if it doesn't happen...that thought doesn't seem to cross anyone's mind.
I am sure that makes you feel good about yourself, that you have this wonderful solution, and gives you the right to look down on everybody else who just doesn't understand.
I don't know about Scumbria but when I harangue about this stuff, it doesn't make me feel better but rather a great deal of frustration. I can see where we are going and it could get very bad....and yet the response is one of glibness.
Its like a child using up all the batteries for his playstation or game boy and expecting that there will be an unending supply of batteries. That may work for children but it doesn't necessarily work for adults.
So, in the meantime while we are looking for alternatives, its my belief that we should be conserving what we have because when we don't, its the environment that usually suffers like the reduction or potential loss of the salmon population, and we could run out completely before we have a replacement. But, unfortunately, many people don't care enough to implement even the least onerous of conservation measures. Its f*cked!
