tb98, my niece's friend with the boat cruising the Caribbean bought a marine kit in Florida from GMPCS. He wanted to talk in person to somebody and physically check it out. There is nothing like being on-the-spot to make a sale.

So, I've sold ONE Globalstar phone! It's annoying that I'm about the only one who can't actually get one. I have to buy my own gateway first.

Actually, cancel that, I just checked the coverage map at globalstar.com
and lo and behold, extended coverage has been made from Dubbo all the way across the Tasman Sea to include the west of New Zealand. Good! While the low angle will make coverage dodgy, the whole of New Zealand can be covered [apart from shadows from mountains in the West]. So, theoretically, I could buy a phone and start making calls when the satellites are about midway between me and Dubbo.

I would buy one if Vodafone didn't have such absurdly expensive phones and minutes in Australia. They would rather have NO money from me than some. They should offer a New Zealand price plan, which would be useful for fishing boats operating out of the western harbours.

It's quite exciting to actually have it possible to use a Globalstar phone in New Zealand. Why don't some of you come here to visit and bring your phone? We can try it out all over the place to see what coverage is like.

They don't show NZ as covered, but I think it would be, at least some of the time and when not in western shadows.

PS: Thank you for your help tb, [I'd hoped they'd buy from you because you've been so helpful in this discussion]. If any of you get a sales lead please direct them to tb98. Send a PM to her with some contact details. We need to look after our buddies.
