Steven, I do not know of any culture where members of one's own group are always treated with the "utmost kindness," while outsiders are always treated with the "utmost cruelty." (Name one!) Life is rarely that schematic. Even within the most rigid, most "autistic" society, there are individual variations. (And I submit that if there are no such variations, the society will not survive.)
