The results in my opinion were far superior than I expected from a timing point of view - particularly advertising which will nicely bridge things for the Main Events: my.mp3.com & artist buildup, which couple to the goal of a main music portal.

I kind of expected such results by q1-2 2001, but they did it in q42000. CEO stated that he expects profit for 2001. The my.mp3.com (a great service which I use) and the new artist site (with new annual fee) have just started and will bring in significant revenue, esp. if my.mp3.com signs a lot of premium service customers.

Two things will help MP3.com. Watch the growth of DSL/Cable subscribers, which technically allow use of hi fidelity service/fast downloads. Second, as MP3.com continues to reduce the "locked" songs in negotiations with record co's for its Beamit service, that will increase the potential songs in a user's locker and use up the 250 free song credits faster & increase the likelihood that subscribers sign up for the premium service at $49 / yr. I did.

Sincerely,
Ben
