Just remember that Rockwell ($12 Billion ROK-NYSE) sold its defense division to make modem chips among other things. Ascend is Rockwell's great hope to continue with any sort of market leadership. So far Ascend and Rockwell have done a very credible job fending off the aggressive and beautifully executed market blitz by USRX. This is a corporate battle of huge proportions with major stakes in balance. I am betting on the combined resources of ASND/CSCC and ROK to prevail. Between the two, they have market position and technology depth of significant proportions. They certainly match anything that Cisco can muster. And Cisco is in the same camp as ASND/ROC as far as modem technology is concerned.
