Innocent lives are taken all the time, innocents who are already born. In fact, even worse than innocent lives being taken, innocents are being tortured every day, in this country. Perhaps, if we had taken care of these already born innocents I would see the point of people caring about not yet born innocents.
These innocents are being tortured by their families, or foster homes, or foster families, or other adults or other children. These innocents are children being sexually or physically abused or neglected. Sometimes they are even killed. But even worse is the neglect of the beautiful children in our inner cities- born to deprived parents, into a world that offers them very little hope, and almost no beauty. Collective neglect that dooms entire areas to poverty and despair. If I am going to worry about something- it is going to be that. I find it very hard, considering the other problems in the world (many of them due to overpopulation) to understand the concern with abortion.
I cannot know whether you have bought into the patriarchal male power structure. Even I, to some extent, have bought into it- every time I feel moved by a stupid movie with a happily ever after ending with a prince, etc etc. It's acculturation- we don't even realize the extent to which we have been programmed- with every commercial with every tv program, with every story, with every social interaction Since even I have bought into it to a limited extent- I find it hard to believe you have not. |
