poverty in the inner city frequently, as a bonus, includes sexual abuse, physical abuse and neglect. The well of compassion and energy and money is finite- you have to prioritize. There are no huge mass movements of people trying to fix the inner cities. Most people, even liberals, have written the people there off. They say the problems are too complex. That what is required is too great. And yet there are people who picket at abortion clinics. People who spend there money to save unborn babies. I say let's save the already born- the law is inadequate to help children- it can merely punish offenders. To really help victims of abuse and neglect you could have social outreach programs- BIG ones, aimed at helping at risk mothers, and ferreting out neglected children and helping them before things become truly horrible.
There are millions of things that could be done to help the inner cities. Private scholarships for teachers, scholarships for children, money for textbooks, for science equipment, for beautification, for parental education, for food, for clothing, for toys, for books books books.
This country spends it's compassion in weird ways, and leaves whole generations to rot. I do not understand it. It is completely illogical. |
