I never said Greenie is there to "bail us out". His job is to keep us from landing too hard and he will do whatever cutting he needs to to accomplish this. That is is not a "far out" belief" in fact I am parroting it from many top analysts I've listened to and read. My point is that if Greenie sees his last cut as ineffective or not enough he will continue to move more agressively than usual. Why? Because HE CAN. We have zero growth, zero inflation and almost everyone wants those rate cuts. He sees those lay-offs being announced, sees what a lousy Xmas we had, sees consumer confidence withering and fears, rightfully so, for the entire world economy. Already there are jerks out there screaming "it's The Great Depression all over again!". Greenie popped the internet bubble because he believed it was harful. But now he has to supply the rest of the market with air so we can resuisitate and get back on an even keel. The reason I won't bet on a 1 point cut is because that would happen only if Greenie is extremely concerned with market sell-offs, and that will only happen if fear and panic start to prevail. But he has proven he canmove quickly and when bears least expect it. He was lauded for that first 1/2 point cut and he may just do it again, as soon as this week or next. And then again later in the month or in March if necessary. Nothing outlandish about this opinion at all.
