It was an interview of a well-educated black man. Bland simply cannot remember his name.

The gist of his story was that there is extreme negative peer pressure placed on blacks who perform well academically...by other blacks. As a child, this man was frequently harassed, abused, and worse for his academic proclivities and zeal.

This same gentleman is evidently widely ostracized today by other black educators for his attempts to bring any level-headed attention to this problem.

It is a pathetically sad story.

To whatever extent this is true, and bland suspects it is, it has to change. It must be changed, for your own idealistic hopes and goals to meet with any success at all.

And to whatever extent it is true, it will have be acknowledged, forthrightly and courageously, before it can be changed...as this man was attempting to do.
