Dylan......Headsets may be delayed until 2002 but the build out of the network must continue ahead of that. "Nokia has also said at their last press conference that they would build 100,000 WCDMA basestations in 2001 and 300,000 in 2002." There, that says it all.
A good point about RSYS being the beneficiary of increased outsourcing by the bloated tech giants. Another major customer of RadiSys, Lucent, also recently announced layoffs, up to 16,000 workers, and said they were going to do much more outsourcing. I remember well Dr. Myers saying several times during CCs that the biggest competition for RadiSys is in house by the customer. That appears to be losing out to RSYS strategy of tech "Building Blocks" and the "Virtual Division".
RSYS is high on the food chain with what they make, award winning equipment. I think that yes, RSYS largest ever recent design win (last month) could very well be Nokia and it could be for base stations. Production on that starts THIS SUMMER.
Only negative I can think of is Intel proposing to sell 10% of their RSYS shares, 180,000. I'm trying to find out the reason. There is a discussion of that on the Yahoo RSYS board.
I look for an acquisition soon to enhance their 2.5 and 3.0G telecom capabilities, they've got $100mil cash ready to go. |
