News:
Gameplay cuts jobs and costs to refocus on core businesses
Gameplay (uk:gam), the British maker and distributor of online electronic games, said on Friday it'll cut 275 jobs and save £12.5 million a year in costs by refocusing on core technology and boxed games businesses. Gameplay said it was trying to shorten its timetable to profitability with the restructuring but didn't disclose when it expected to be profitable. The company said recent trading was stronger than expected and raised its revenue estimate for the six months to end January to £43 million from £40 million. Gameplay said it will slim down to two divisions: technology, containing its Internet gaming operations, and boxed games handling the sales of packaged games. The company said it had promised in December to achieve profitability within existing cash resources and was restructuring to shorten that timetable. Gameplay shares closed down 10 percent at 100 pence on Thursday.
