Dr. King is one of my heroes--on my personal profile page, I once had, for my favorite quotation "anything said by Martin Luther King, Jr." to which I got a very sweet Private Message from a woman from Texas who wrote: "I see that you're black--cool, so am I." It really was kind of sad, though--she saw that I was from Washington, DC (which is roughly 70% black), and that meant that my very mention of Dr. King meant that I was black, after all, what WHITE person would write such a thing??? Hell, I LOVED Dr. King--he is and always will be one of my heroes, but it will be a happy day when admiration of him doesn't logically indicate that one is black.... |
