Paul, is that why you're so upset?

Those leaked SMP Athlon benchmarks actually make a lot of sense. AMD has steadfastly claimed that Palamino will be in production next quarter and is sampling this quarter. So there had better be some systems getting to OEMs for qualification around now. And once more than a few dozen systems are out in the field, it gets pretty hard to keep the lid on - especially if the systems are demonstrating spectacular performance. (or, as happened in the case of P4's IPC, awful performance. Remember the Pikachu P4 leaks that nobody believed?)

You've really been on a tear these past few days. Did one of your buddies tip you off to that dual Palamino systems are being evaluated and that they are looking very, very good?

Those dual Palamino results mean two things: AMD has a server platform about 50% faster than Intel's present best, and AMD has a chip that will make one heck of mobile processor when it's underclocked to 1GHZ.

Now if these were just going to be lab samples until late Q2 when the first .13 Tualatins have already started trickling out from Intel's new FABs, this wouldn't be any reason for you to be so obviously upset. But you've been particularly rabid lately, so it must be that either Palamino and AMD SMP are right around the corner, or Intel's Copper/.13/low-K triple simultaneous transition has hit a major wall and will be delayed for many months.

Which one is it? Could it be both?

:-)
