Ben: Re: the TI announcement:
"The TRF6150 also provides implementation flexibility and ease of design for wireless handset OEMs. Serving as a single-chip dual- or tri-band transceiver, the device is compliant with the GSM version 2.5 and GPRS class 12 industry standards and is also compatible with UMTS requirements. Hence, its frequency plan is compatible with the implementation of TI's Bluetooth and Global Positioning System (GPS) technologies in the same handset."

Note that the TI device is "compliant" with GSM "standards" and "compatible" with UMTS "requirements".

The use of different terminology here is interesting.

Any clue what lies behind these distinctions?

Also EDGE is not mentioned, although GPRS is.

Does this mean EDGE does not figure in TI's view of the GSM to UMTS path?

Thanks for posting this announcement.

Best.

Chaz

PS This seems to be the first concrete evidence of the fruits of the Qualcomm / Texas Instrument agreement.
