SCO Releases UDI Supplement for UnixWare 7

Supplement Provides Standard Open Driver Interface for Third Party
Hardware Vendors

SANTA CRUZ, Calif., Feb. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Providing its customers and
partners with better business solutions, The SCO Server Software Division,
an independent business unit of The Santa Cruz Operation, Inc. (Nasdaq:
SCOC), today announced the availability of the Uniform Driver Interface
(UDI) supplement for its UnixWare 7 operating platform.

A first-of-its-kind movement, the UDI initiative provides independent
hardware vendors (IHVs) with a standard open driver interface and a single
target port while giving customers the ultimate choice in the broadest range of
peripheral hardware. Members of Project UDI include Adaptec, Compaq,
Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Intel, Interphase, Lockheed Martin, SBS, STG, Sun,
and UNISYS. The UDI supplement for the UnixWare 7 operating platform is
available for free download at www.sco.com/download.

Specifically, this single port will enable hardware products to work across
UDI-compliant operating platforms saving IHVs time and money that would
otherwise be spent porting products to many platforms. Benefits extend to
UnixWare 7 operating platform customers who will be able to choose from a
wider variety of hardware products that might otherwise not be available.

"The continuing efforts of Project UDI have paid off," said John Harker,
director of UNIX product management with the SCO Server Software
Division. "Hardware vendors work on a tight budget and have to make hard
choices as to which operating platform to support. We believe that UDI will
become a top tier port target for hardware vendors because a single driver
can provide high performance coverage to all UDI-compliant platforms. As a
result, UnixWare 7 will enjoy unparalleled levels of hardware support."

In August 2000, Caldera Systems, Inc., providers of OpenLinux platforms,
announced plans to purchase the SCO Server Software Division and
Professional Services Division. "UDI reinforces our vision for the unification of
UNIX and Linux operating systems that the new Caldera International will
deliver," continued Harker.

technology. For more information, please see www.project-udi.org.
