DDR and the 266 MHz FSB: status report (HARDWARE)

Well, the DDR launch has not gone smoothly, that is the least you can say. No 133MHz DDR/266 MHz FSB Athlons are available right now, and several boards have trouble working at 266 MHz FSB.

You might remember this story at the Register that Gigabyte discovered a stability problem with the AMD 760 chipset at 266 FSB. If you look at AMD's recommended motherboard list, you will notice that several of the DDR capable board have an attached note, saying "200 MHz FSB! only". Make sure that you verify very well which board you buy. For example the Gigabyte GA-7DX version 2.4 and older works only at 200 Mhz reliable. The Gigabyte GA-7DX version 3.0 works fine at 266 MHz FSB, and you can check out a review at Socket A.
