Hi Pat,

I read the Quantum Bridge article and wondered why they were thinking ATM. I still wondering. Seems to me the industry is moving toward an IEEE 802.3xx ethernet solution.

From the article: "ATM equipment costs will always be higher than Ethernet-based equipment," says Eugene Park, LuxN's director of international marketing. "When was the last time you had an ATM connection to your desktop and phone?"

IMVHO, ATM is a rock-stable, clever way to provision voice circuits, but is hopelessly overpriced and mal-adaptive to the bursty world of TCP/IP in all its manifestations, including, of course, VoIP, which is currently making a shambles of the old long distance telephony regimes.

Do you see a future for ATM, other than as a niche product with a very small market? Frankly, I don't.

Best, Ray :)
