TI's PR says "The new TRF6150 direct-conversion RF device reduces the overall RF bill of materials (BOM) by 15 percent over other announced direct-conversion devices."

I took this to mean that TI developed this on their own and thinks their solution is better than QCOM's version. So the UMTS part likely came about from the exchange in IPR with QCOM, but the direct-conversion part, probably not.
