the DDR launch has not gone smoothly
My DDR box works great. You should drop by Best Buy and pick one up for yourself. I have three boxes which use DDR on the motherboard, graphics card, or both. They all work great.
LOL! I'll just bet that the JEDEC committee guys are sitting around saying "ALLLLLRIIIIIGGGGGGHHHTTTTT!!!! We sold one to Scumbria!!!!!! Now THAT'S what I call a successful DDR launch!!!!!! C'mon guys, let's go get a beer and celebrate!!!!!"
Let's review a smooth and successful launch...
First, customers are actually able to get products with your technology from the leading vendors. Let's see. Hmm. Nope, I don't see any DDR systems available from Dell (the leading domestic vendor). Or from Compaq (the leading WW vendor). Or from Gateway. Or from HP. Or (oh, my God!) from IBM. Not even a DDR system from IBM, one of the supreme leaders of the DDR movement! I'd say that's a big, fat strike-out so far. Incidentally, there's a lot of RDRAM systems available from these vendors, both the in workstation as well as the desktop categories.
Secondly, (maybe they'll do better on this one) there should be no product recalls once the product has started shipping. Oops, can't claim that one, either.
Hmmm, you know what? I don't see a "smooth" or "successful" DDR launch. All I see is one itsy-bitsy computer company supporting it and some board vendors for some of the I-can-build-it-myself yahoos.
Things are not going well so far for the DDR-as-main-memory camp. Maybe they'll have a smooth launch in the future. But so far, they've thrown a DDR party and no one has come. |
