Plugging Into This Week's Barron's Effect
By James J. Cramer

What did Laura Conigliaro know about Brocade (BRCD:Nasdaq - news - boards) and when did she know it? Mark Veverka answers that question in his always-read Plugged In column in the back of Barron's. And the news is good for the longs.

Brocade, which took a beating after Laura said the upside might be limited, apparently might have been judged unfairly by the marketplace. Conigliaro wasn't lowering the bar so much as saying that Greg Reyes, the always-upbeat CEO, might have trouble crushing the estimates instead of just beating them.

This article is of tremendous importance to Brocade shareholders because Reyes has smashed the ball out of the park so many times that if he did just do a little better than the Street's consensus, this stock would get hammered. Now the combination of the decline created by Conigliaro's comments and the notion that "there is not a single deal that we lost or a single push-out that's occurred," as Reyes told Barron's, might mean that Reyes is in good shape -- and the stock is in great shape -- when Brocade reports just a good old solid number.

Personal disclosure: I love Laura 'cause she has made me a ton of money, and if you follow her, you will, too. And Reyes? What can I say? I wasn't a believer either until I met the guy. He is part of a new breed of smart, tough executives who understand both Wall Street and Silicon Valley. I have never made any money betting against this guy. Brocade's an emotional stock. When it got hit after it reported dynamite earnings at the end of last year, I almost had a stroke throwing keyboards at my staff.

I retired soon after, but not before Brocade returned to much higher prices.
