JAVA's future with Apple

Ellen Hancock, VP of the Technology Dept. at Apple, had a chat session last night. Here is a bit of the script:

RickS asks: What language will be the language of choice for Rhapsody? Is there a push for one or the other, or will it be our choice (C++, Java, Objective C, or even combinations)?

EHancock: I honestly think that the market is going to make this choice. It was our intent to be able to support the popular languages, which is C, C++ and Pascal. We are supporting the Objective C, which is the language that we acquired with Next, and we are supporting Java with a clear understanding that over time more and more developers will be using Java for developing their Applets. We think that Rhapsody will be a premiere development and deployment platform for Java Applets, and we are commited to 100% pure Java.
