Vodafone May Delay Verizon Share Sale, Make Offer, Paper Says
By Toby Anderson

London, Feb. 5 (Bloomberg) -- Vodafone Group Plc may delay the $80 billion initial share sale of its U.S. joint venture with Verizon Communications Inc. and make a cash offer for the business, the Times of London reported, citing an unidentified source.

Vodafone, the world's No.1 wireless operator, was expected to sell shares in Verizon Wireless Inc. by the end of the first quarter, the Times said. Vodafone Chief Executive Chris Gent has ``almost certainly'' approached Verizon Communications about taking control of Verizon Wireless, according to the Times.

Verizon Wireless wanted to sell shares in October last year. The sale was postponed after declines in rivals' shares.

Vodafone owns 45 percent of Verizon Wireless, while the rest is held by Verizon Communications, the Times said. Verizon is the U.S.'s No. 1 non-traditional phone company with 27 million subscribers.
