Bush called for drilling in the Arctic refuge, noting that it might hold about 11 billion barrels of oil. Environmentalists say developing the oil would jeopardize
the coastal plain's wildlife, including 130 species of migrating birds; thousands of porcupine caribou that give birth to their young in the summer; and polar bears,
musk oxen and grizzly bears.

Scott,

Not to worry..they are getting us ready for the drilling in the ANWAR. The whole topic was on 60 minutes last nite...the environmentalist came off as strident and inflexible while the oil driller who took the reporter on a tour of the ANWAR was presented as reasonable and well informed.

They said because most of the platforms will be on land they can contain any spill. And then they showed how they could suck the oil out from a huge radius with just one drill platform.....sort of like a kid sucking on a straw. So when you hear that sucking sound, be aware.......

In any case, there is nothing to be concerned about..when the caribou are pregnant, the oil drillers promise they will not bother them (the caribou need to be alone when they give birth)....and when the snow geese come to mate, the oil drillers promise to keep away.

I believe them.
